The American Woodcock takes a heavy take-off flight with dangling legs, like on this photo, when she is with her chicks, this is to attract the predator to her.
In the same time. the woodcock chick banding technicians, from this kind of take-off flight they know that Mommy Woodcock is with her chicks, they start to search the camouflaged chicks in the forest ground from where took off the flight their Mommy.
The Mommy Woodcock goes a little far, the bander do the banding of the chicks, when the bander and its pointing dog they leave the place, the Mother of the chicks it came back where are the chicks, they can communicate with each other by whistling.
