Description
Anhinga Pose - Anhinga or as some call it the snake bird because of it long neck which can be seen in the water looking like a snake. This Anhinga was resting up along the board walk at the birding center in South Padre Island this morniing and it managed to pose for several photos with the thick white fog background it looked like he was at the studio and had come in for a portrait. We actually did start out doing birds so we still like it when we get a perfect pose from a bird. It just had to be taken. Anhinga mean devil bird or snake bird in tupi language which is now extinct but was part of Brazil Tupi language in the past. The anhinga is a water bird that spends it time diving for fish and then spear it with it long slender beak. The anhinga can't fly well with wet wings so they spend a good amount of time drying their feathers and you will see them with their wings spread out to dry along the waters edge.
Note: This image will be displayed as a an 8ft mural size image under glass in the new Mickey Leland International Terminal at the George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston Texas when completed in April 24. This is one of seven that will be display as a mural size under glass.
