Description
The London Eye is a giant observation wheel situated on the banks of the River Thames in London, England. It is the tallest ferris wheel in Europe, and is visited by over 3.5 million people a year. The wheel has a diameter of 394 feet (120 m) and the entire structure stands 443 feet (135 m) tall. The wheel revolves at 10 in per second so that one revolution takes about 30 min. It revolves slow enough to allow most passengers to walk on and off of the moving capsule at ground level. During the bidding process for the 2012 Olympic Games, the organizers announced that the Olympic emblem would be attached to the Eye for the duration of the 2012 Summer Olympics.
