Description
This is an original hand carved, bluestone piece. It depicts a jungle scene with a poison dart frog being eyed up as a potential meal by a naive serpent.(they both die in the end;)
folly.. [fol-ee] .
1.
the state or quality of being foolish; lack of understanding or sense.
2.
a foolish action, practice, idea, etc.; absurdity:.
3.
a costly and foolish undertaking; unwise investment or expenditure.
4.
Architecture . a whimsical or extravagant structure built to serve as a conversation piece or lend interest to a view. a building constructed primarily for decoration, but either suggesting by its appearance some other purpose, or merely so extravagant that it transcends the normal range of garden ornaments..
Ahh.. the Ouroboros that is life! The futility of it all. Life devouring itself to stay alive. Pointless really! Absurd and extravagant and foolish and totally pointless!
But isn't it pretty?
footnote: the price is negotiable:-)
Here is a little poem that my friend Betty wrote inspired by this piece...
Frog and Snake Karma, by Betty Pieper (aka..Elzbieta Zemaitis)-2014
Frog felt the need to buy some time when snake slid up close behind. So Frog offered in a voice so kind, to assist in Snake's rehabilitation - for it's widely known that there is nothing lower than the belly of a snake - unless it's a serpent's reputation.....
"Social esteem," Frog began, "is judged by whom you choose to sup with at your table, "Be selective" Frog advised, "seek out the higher class as much as you are able.
Insects, rodents, frogs and such are in poor taste and doom you to defeat. To raise your social image you must...demand elegance in what you eat.
Snake, fully convinced, understood by now exactly how to prove himself a winner. He slithered forth and in one swift, smooth move...had a prince for dinner.

Bluestone! Barry,It must be so very lovely to feel the real thing! But your photo of your beautiful creation at least gives me an idea of its smoothness and lovely coloration. A very interesting design with much "food" for thought! And yes, the whole universe does feel like a giant eating machine and many times in desolation I have wondered "What on earth is the point"? Yet, some kind of faith draws me on to keep accepting the Mystery and a feeling that eventually all will be revealed beyond any way of being able to "think" about it! You see, your beautiful sculpture provides a wealth of interesting reflections for the discerning purchaser of this wonderful treasure. L/F
