Just what I wanted for a new iPhone. A special “Thank You” to artist ‘Serge Averbukh’ for the addition, at my request, to the design of my Navy rating, the lightening bolts (sparks as they are/were called) in the middle of the CPO insignia. I asked; he came through….When I use my phone, it brings back fond memories of my 20-year Navy career…. Thanks Serge….

Killdeer (Charadrius vociferus) are fairly common and widespread in the United States, and often found in small flocks on shores, meadows, wetlands, and in coastal open fields. Their double black breast bands, orange eye ring, and tawny orange rumps are very distinctive. They are medium-sized plovers, measuring about 10.5 inches in length and about 3.3 ounces in weight. They forage for food in fields, shorelands and mudflats, most commonly eating insects.
This adult Killdeer and its chick foraging on grass alongside a road were photographed at Hammonasset Beach State Park, Madison, Connecticut on 7-9-2016. I used a Nikon D810 camera body and a Nikkor 500mm f/4.0E FL ED VR2 telephoto lens to capture this image.
I am honored that my photograph was featured in the Fine Art America groups:
FAA Portraits - Birds, 4-27-2017
All About Nature And The Animals, 4-27-2017
A Birding Group - Wings, 4-28-2017

Thank you for your interest in my photographs. My passion for birding and nature has taken me outdoors almost daily whether home in the USA, or on trips in East Africa, Israel, the Caribbean, and Brazil. I've been fortunate enough to have seen and photographed over 1000 species of birds, and I get a lot of satisfaction when I'm able to capture a beautiful and interesting shot and share it with others. I've had the honor of my bird photos recognized in prestigious competitions including "The Top One Hundred" of the Audubon Photo Contest, the "Honored Top 40" of the Nature's Best Backyards Photography Contest, and included in the "Nature's Witness" exhibition of 47 nature photographs (selected from 22,000 entries to the National Wildlife...
