Built in 1920, the Lincoln Memorial overlooks the National Mall. President Lincoln sits in the center of the Memorial facing Capital hill with a watchful eye. The stark contrast and simplicity of this photo was developed intentionally. It resembles President Lincoln's ability to maintain the structure and the strong foundation of the US government despite the darkness that confronted his Presidency.
