Description
I wanted to do a painting of a raven and then I decided to do a collage of the various stories and myths about ravens. The surface is made of tissue glued to sturdy paper and then I use acrylics on top. The collage includes references to the raven as the bringer of the sun, moon and fire to the earth. There is the chesspiece. The Tarot cards are included because he is supposed to be a trickster or fortune teller. The sorcerer's hat is a similar idea. The noose refers to the fact that ravens were often seen around gallows, and on battlefields, eating the remains. Fascinating birds but they do have a lot of gruesome associations.
