Description
Rembrandt Portrait study -
No artist has left a loftier or more penetrating personal testament than Rembrandt van Rijn. In more than 90 portraits of himself that date from the outset of his career in the 1620s to the year of his death in 1669, he created an autobiography in art that is the equal of the finest ever produced in literature.
This Rembrandt self portrait is thought to have been his last is was done in 1669 Rembrandt was 63. The actual portrait shows Rembrandt from the waist up this study focuses on just the face. It was my intention to try to copy as close to exact as possible Rembrandt's impasto painting style right down to each brush stroke.
Copying master artists work has been a tradition dating back beyond the time of the Renaissance, Raphael was very fond of copying other painter's work to study their method and technique.

I love Rambrandt colors. You did a justice in doing his portrait in a great way.

Oh, I don't know why I have not visited your artsite more often. I have been missing so much. This is a fabulous, outstanding portrait of Rembrandt. I have seen this in some of my art books but have never seen anyone paint a copy of this portrait. I wish I knew how to express my appreciation for you & your great talent. Shine on. Anne
