Description
"Silent Renaissance" is about having an opened heart. This is an artwork concerning a quest to be reborn into a better human being; to find a higher purpose. A Renaissance of the spirit, experienced within; silent to the outer world. It is the very first painting in my Symbolist Portraiture Series. For that reason, it has special meaning to me. The female wears the makeup of a Pierrot clown which is symbolic of unhappiness. Her longing fuels a search for a personal holy grail; a more meaningful purpose. The canvas speaks of elements that will materialize in her life as a result of the search. The pink orchid signifies pure affection and openness. The white hibiscus is symbolic of enlightenment, and can also represent the act of seizing opportunity. The blue birds represent happiness and fulfillment. The Angel Fish symbolize the presence of angels in one's life, while the fish swimming up from the bottom corner symbolizes an evolution of the spirit. The water represents life. The dolphins signify independence, potential and adaptation. The statue of the hunter represents the quest itself; the action of hunting or seeking. The paintings within the painting symbolize events of the past, present and future. I laugh a little each time I look at this painting, remembering a gallery owner that upon seeing it questioned its nudity. My attempts to explain the nudity as symbolic of honesty, as well as innocence, were to no avail.
