Just what I wanted for a new iPhone. A special “Thank You” to artist ‘Serge Averbukh’ for the addition, at my request, to the design of my Navy rating, the lightening bolts (sparks as they are/were called) in the middle of the CPO insignia. I asked; he came through….When I use my phone, it brings back fond memories of my 20-year Navy career…. Thanks Serge….

The Tristram's Starling (Onchognathus tristamii), also called Tristram's Grackle, is a starling that is native to the Middle East region, including Israel. It measures about 10 inches in length. Male adults are mostly glossy black, with black bill and black legs, and have an orange wing patch. This starling is known to be very noisy. Tristram's Starlings are omnivores and feed on fruit and on insects. They are often seen perched on camels. Their preferred habitat is on rocky hills, ravines, and arid desert. They nest on rocky cliff faces.
This Tristram's Starling pair perched on a rocky ledge at Masada was photographed on 12-24-2022. Masada is an ancient fortress in the Judean Desert overlooking the Dead Sea. I used a Nikon D850 camera body and a Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR zoom lens to capture this avian image. Settings: 1/1600 sec, f/5.6, ISO 560. As I was planning to photograph family, excavations, and landscape, these starlings that perched very close to me were just too irr...
