Description
The Swordfish Harpooner was a concrete sculpture created by Jay Lagemann and was located on the sand dunes of Menemsha Harbor, Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts. Commissioned for Chilmark’s tricentennial in 1994, the 17-foot-tall sculpture is an homage to the fishing industry. In December of 2015 the original deteriorating concrete sculpture was taken down by in pieces Jay Lagemann and sent to ART Research Enterprises, a foundry in Lancaster, Penn., where workers will recast it and create the new bronze version which will eventually take the place of the original sculpture.
