Filed crickets, 19th century illustration. These crickets are of the species Gryllus formosus, Gryllus hirtipes and Gryllus trifasciatus. This lithograph published in Philadelphia, USA in the 1820s. It is taken from the collection American entomology: or description of the insects of North America, illustrated by coloured figures from original drawings executed from nature by the American naturalist Thomas Say.
