The print is much darker in person. It looks like an underexposed photo and hard to make out any detail on the bottom half of the print. Paper quality is good. Fast shipping.
Artist's Description
Meet Nyango, a very rare and special ape. A sub species of Western Lowland gorilla, Nyango is the only Cross River Gorilla in captivity in the world. Matriarc of the resident group of Western Lowland gorillas at Limbe Wildlife Centre, Cameroon. Her right eye was injured when poachers shot her mother when she was a baby, making her subsequently blind in that eye, hence she could not be returned to the wild.
About Julie L Hoddinott
Hi fellow artists, and friends. My name is Julie, but most people call me Jul or Jules. I am a 59 year old Grandmother and full time carer of the most precious little girl one could ever set eyes on. She is my life, and my artistic journey comes a close second. I live in the pretty, but wet country of Wales, UK. I have a passionate love for animals, children and for environmental/conservation work and activity. Much of my spare time is given to both conservational projects and helping my local community. I like to write [I am currently writing a fantasy romance novel], and create the odd image now and then :) Most of the work you will find in my galleries will be animal themed, but I also create fantasy work that involves humans -...

Marcia Lee Jones
Love this shot but your gorilla looks so very sad. v/f
Julie L Hoddinott replied:
Thanks Marcia. Let me put your kind mind to rest. Nyango is the matriarch of a resident group of western lowland gorillas at a primate rescue centre in Cameroon, West Africa. She is very much the lady, and the boss :) [apart from Chella, who is the Silverback of the group - but he loves Nyango, his leading lady]. She is just resting here, taking in the surroundings and about ten minutes before this shot was taken she was busy climbing a tree and eating a whole hand of bananas :) She is the most gentle soul imaginable and she loves baby gorillas, often seen playing with them and mothering them within her group. She is the most rare primate species on the planet - being a cross river gorilla, and she is the only one in captivity in the whole world. She can never go back to the wild because she is blind in one eye - but she leads a very nice life where she is I am happy to say.
