The old barn on the road that leads from the Northway to Lake Placid was a beloved icon and one of the most photographed landmarks in the Adirondack Park. Built in the late 1950s, it was a real barn at first, later became part of a gas station and restaurant, and then survived on its own, a mecca for photographers traveling on Route 73. Despite intense efforts to save the barn, it was torn down in December 2016 because authorities deemed it unsafe and beyond repair.
