Karen Cattel is a special artist and her whimsical art looks great on the two sturdy totes I purchased. One is a gift for a friend and the other is for me. I love them.

I so appreciate being able to have this old-fashioned outdoor dinner scene on a tote bag. It is adorable. Thank you for making it available.

I noted that the color came out differently on this size of bag, it is distinctly more purple. I happen to love that color also--the larger size has perfect color, exactly like the photo. I love both of my bags.

Artist's Description

This building was built either for or by my husband's great-grandfather in 1897, in the "late-Victorian" architectural style. The main building housed a store on the ground level and a theater above. The addition was built in 1903, and until sometime in the 1940s was home to a doctor's office. Some of the "old timers" in town remember going to plays and dances in the upstairs quarters.

Samuel only owned the property for a couple of years. There was a hardware store on the ground floor until 1942. Although the Hackmann Building was used for commercial purposes until 1990, it fell victim to flooding by the Missouri River in 1993 and 1995. After that it sat empty until it was renovated in 1996.

In 1998 the Samuel E. Hackmann Building was added to the National Register of Historic Places for it's local significance. My hope is that it will continue to be preserved and cared for, and that someday my sons can show this to their future children, and say "See that building?...

As a self-taught photographer, Cricket works daily to learn new ways of honing her skills and improving her art. She uses a DSLR camera as her primary tool to capture an image, and then various software programs, as needed, to transform the image into the desired...
