Just what I wanted for a new iPhone. A special “Thank You” to artist ‘Serge Averbukh’ for the addition, at my request, to the design of my Navy rating, the lightening bolts (sparks as they are/were called) in the middle of the CPO insignia. I asked; he came through….When I use my phone, it brings back fond memories of my 20-year Navy career…. Thanks Serge….

This is a reproduction of “Ulysses and the Sirens” by Herbert James Draper of 1909. The painting was created when the artist was forty-six years old. The scene is from Homer’s Odyssey and falls within Draper’s preferred subjects from Greek Mythology. Later in his career when mythological subjects became less popular, he turned to portraiture and gained a great deal of contemporary fame. He was born in London and studied art in the Royal Academy. He won the Gold Medal in 1889 which financed his trips to Rome and Paris. He worked as an illustrator and, settling in London aged twenty-six he married and had a daughter. He died of arteriosclerosis at his London home in 1920. This masterpiece is an oil on canvas and measures 69.7 by 84.1 inches. It is in the Ferens Art Gallery in Kingston upon Hull, England.
