Mycenaean civilization

The citadel of Mycenae was inhabited since Neolithic times (6000 B.C), but reached its peak during the Bronze Age. According to the Greek myth, Mycenae was founded by Perseus. Mycenae was a major power, extending its influence throughout Europe. Mycenaean civilization dominated the eastern Mediterranean world from the 15th to the 12th century BC., laid the foundations of classical Hellenic civilisation. After the Trojan war, following the earth-quakes and fire possibly Mycenae declined. Mycenae linked to the Homeric epics the Iliad and the Odyssey have influenced European art and literature for more than three millennia.
