Geometric pottery
The old features of the mighty Mycenaean civilization were amalgamated with the new ones that emerged as a result of population movements, producing a new style in vase-painting, the Geometric style, which lasted about three centuries (1050-700 BC). The name of this style is owned to the rectilinear and curvilinear geometric motifs, almost all drawn with the aid of a ruler and compass that adorned the vases of this period. The Geometric style found its most perfect expression in Attica, though important contribution were also made by the local workshops, each of which retained the tradition of the Mycenaean culture in varying degrees.
