Jim Mauchly was given his first camera, a $4.99 Ansco roll film camera, at the age of six. By high school, he was working weekends as a part-time photographer’s assistant, helping to shoot weddings in his hometown of Norristown, Pa. After graduation, Mauchly enlisted in the United States Navy, where he studied photography at the US Naval School of Photography, in Florida and received training in photojournalism, aerial photography, and portraiture.
