Welcome to my gallery! I am excited to share my passion for Art with you.

I started painting at age 45 and, so far, the journey has been one of spectacular discoveries! I paint with the intensity and the freshness of being young in my heart. I am still amazed by the fact that one does not just paint with hands but with all the senses. I feel fortunate that there exists this bridge of Art which allows me to share my playfulness with other folks.

I can firmly say that besides being a mother, being a painter is the most rewarding and fulfilling experience in my life time. Painting has brought joy and sense to my days and nights, color and shapes to my dreams, and I am continuously humbled by every little new skill that lets me bring the sky to the canvas, the sea to the ceiling of my atelier, the eyes of my father to the tip of my brush. I pray that this journey of illusory images and palpitating rhythms, never ends.

I usually sing and talk to my paintings and they sing and talk back to me. If they remain silent I know that there is something missing, and I continue to pour myself into the image until I see and feel a response from the piece. I prefer to paint with oils because it gives me the chance to work for several days on the same subject matter with the hope that, at some point, the philosophical meaning behind the painting finds its way to the surface. Like the little boat letting the wind take it to the heart of the horizon. For Art is always a trip to the unknown.

I also like to paint with acrylics, a medium that allows to convey urgency, while water colors let the liquid run over the paper trying to stop or at least postpone my melancholy.

I feel more like a medium while painting, same thing with Literature. There is force within you that is a unique conspiracy between your eyes and the pencil, following the mystery, digging through the nothingness, extracting beauty from pain, sense from chaos.

As I embrace the world with my humble artwork, the world embraces me with its motherly arms. What else could a painter ask for?

I was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador on March 6th, 1951. My father was a public figure, a lawyer, a politician, a university professor, a judge, a journalist. Mother was a housewife who gave birth to nine children. I was number 6. That gave a sense of balance to my life, placed me in the center, not of the stage, but of the blessed routine of a long family. I had the opportunity to learn from the experience of my older siblings, but at the same time I could perceive the inexperienced steps of the younger ones. I assigned an specific color to each one of them in my mind. And perhaps I was already painting them with the free brushes of my dreams, since I first saw the light of life on my birth day.
I am a poet, a published author, a librarian, translator, and an unapologetic philosopher, but above all, I am a mother of three, a grandmother of five, and a loving wife.
