Lighthouses come in many styles and sizes. The tallest example in the U.S. is located in Cape Hatteras, NC. Different technologies have been used through the years to illuminate them, including open fire, mirrors, and electric light. These structures were historically used to help ships navigate waterways, and some, like the Sandy Hook Lighthouse in New Jersey, are still in operation. Our gorgeous photographs depict a variety of lighthouses surrounded by breathtaking vistas.
