On Good Friday, April 6, 2007, British-born artist Leonora Carrington turned 90 years old.
She spent her early childhood getting expelled from many schools, rebelling against and running away from a very strict Catholic upbringing.
By 1936, she became an established surrealist painter and novelist.
Her separation from her lover Max Ernst, who was taken to a concentration camp in 1940, caused her agonizing breakdown.
Her estranged family had her institutionalized as a result.
The last known photo of her was taken in 1960.
And although the world may never truly get to know her work, she has my deepest respect.
Thank you, Leonora, wherever you are, for your ability to turn pain into art, an inspiration.

I can see Her influence in Your work, thank You for bringing Her to My attention. I spent awhile today reading about Her life and looking at Her work. I love hearing about artists I'm not aware of, and learnin' a little something, thanks
