Stumbling through Atlanta History

So, I happened to be in downtown Atlanta to drop off a family member at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport recently and decided to allow myself one hour to finally visit the Historic Oakland Cemetery and still hopefully beat the rush of traffic back to my home in the north Georgia mountains.
All I can say is "WOW!". The typical Atlanta afternoon sun was in all it's glory and beating down at 98 degrees on my dark gray shirt...I probably should have decided before I left on whether or not I was doing this shoot and at least tossed on a white t-shirt haha
I stumbled my way around on the historic red brick paths with my photographers Spidey-sense on overload as the sweat beaded and soaked my clothing. Angling this way and that way, hoping I wouldn't loose my way back to my ride in this 48 acre maze of grave sites and mausoleums, I focused, changed many settings back and forth on my Canon...click click...down to one knee on the hot pavement... click click...shifted angles on artistic views...click click... for what I hoped would be keepers for my portfolio and all the while basking in my love of nostalgia.
The history of names, dates and epitaphs engraved in stone is overwhelming and to know you are stepping in the very paths that notable long lost icons of industry, politics, literary fame and those who were once loved ones who fought for their beliefs on the battlefronts of societal change can take your breath away as you hope to somehow capture just a sip of its flavor. One hour is just no where near enough...I will return.
