The Experience The Memories The Photograph

I enjoy every aspect of photography. I enjoy everything from planning the photograph to the final product. The experience of the that takes you to the moment of the photograph whether it is a big drawn out plan or something that is more spur of the moment type of situation both are enjoyable. To me, the memories behind the photograph is the real treasure in the process. It can be a planned photograph that is being taken, and the view of the walk to the photograph site, or the sounds of the birds, can really make entire process memorable. In addition, it can be a special event either personally or with a family that creates the memories that are cherished forever. Finally, the photograph is the celebration of the wonderful journey that has just been experienced.
The photograph The End Of The Day fits this process. In our family, we celebrate success. When both of our children graduated from high school we offered to take them on a special vacation of their choosing. My son, loves to go on cruises. It was no surprise that when he chose a cruise for his celebration vacation. We left New Orleans, Louisiana for a week full of fun in the sun. We visited some Caribbean Islands, went on some adventures on the islands. It was just a great time to spend with the family. Of course, I had my camera the entire time. There was many photographs taken. My son, hasn't ever taken to photography, it is not his thing at all. That is ok, he has his own interests. However, as we were coming in to the Port Of New Orleans at the end of the cruise we were sitting on the balcony of the ship. We were talking about the how pretty the weather and the sky were as the sun was going down. One thing led to another and we started talking about photography and how we were lucky that we were on the side of the ship that had the opportunity to see the sun go down on the ocean that final night. I brought out my camera and started taking pictures when the sun started to disappear. We would discuss the photographs and which ones he would like to see taken. He had some great suggestions. However, it was not the suggestions that I enjoyed so much, it was speaking with my son who was well on his way to becoming a man and having an adult conversation about something other than movies, video games, sports, etc. Knowing that he was going to be leaving for college in a few months made this time that we spend together even more cherished. After we got home, we discussed what a good time we had and relived the experiences. Before we knew it, our son had to leave to go to college in another state. We didn't see him much that year, because he was so far. However, we did talk every night on the phone. One day, while visiting us at home, I was working on editing photographs. We started talking about that cruise for his graduation present and what a great time we had. I told him that I was editing a photograph from the trip. I showed him this photograph in a raw format. We sat down and started discussing what he thought would look good and what adjustments he would like to see. I showed him some aspects of the Photoshop program; we discussed over processing and what to do and what not to do in photo editing. After we were done, I thought to myself, what a rewarding experience. I had the opportunity to get to celebrate my son's success, take a ton of photographs, have a great memory taking one set of particular photographs with my son, and finally have another great experience editing a photograph from the trip with my son. The enjoyable experience was that the trip and photography gave us the opportunity to spend some quality time together and continuing to build the father and son relationship. I have attached the photograph that we edited together on this blog.
