Description
in front of my friend's house (Harriet Hazelett- a fine painter) is this magnificent Ficus tree that everybody remembers always being there - actually two, one on the side of the house also that is larger.
These trees withstood the full force of Hurricane Charley in august of 04 (cat 5 storm) and protected the home.
They have such a strong life force that to be in their presence is to be affected and inspired.

Bruce Combs - REACH BEYOND
I really appreciate these photographs, Charles, and especially your DESCRIPTIONS. These trees are really amazing. At the base they seem to be clutching the earth -- and to withstand that hurricane, they must have been. I can not discern what is one tree coming from the ground and then dividing strangely or actually just shooting off from a bigger trunk above ground. I do not know anything about them, but I can imagine how maybe all the smaller stems, stalks, whatever, going into the ground meet up down there, maybe only one plant below is manifesting at various locations, a family fortress, or something. Do they spread a lot, as say, bamboo does, or weeds whose "runners" seem to network the whole earth. Anyway, someday I want to get down there and see all that and maybe get out in the plein myself! Thanks again, Charles. Peace, etc., Bruce
