Preparing to launch GLORIA. A technician makes preparations for the deployment of the GLORIA long-range side-scanning sonar device. GLORIA is seen here in its self-contained launch cradle. This enables the sonar to be used on almost any ship. Here it is a converted trawler, the MV Farnella. GLORIA was first used in 1969, and the three GLORIA vehicles have been updated continually. In the deep ocean, GLORIA's sonar has a range of about 40 kilometres.
