Pin-cushion Hakea (Hakea Laurina)
Hakea Laurina. commonly known as the “Pincushion Hakea” and also has local names of Emu Bush and Kodjet.
Native to Southwestern Australia.
Now widely grown as a garden tree.
The tree, this flower was photographed on, is over 4 metre tall and is only 9 years old.
It flowers over a very long period from Late Autumn to early spring.
The birds and native bee love the flowers especially because there is only a few plants in flower
The flowers shown is approx. 4cm but can very in some locations.
A bud can be seen top centre clinging to the bow and the bright whitish item to the left of the main flower is the bud shell still hanging onto an other flower that is opening/
