Description
Orchid flower (Dendrobium draconis). The frilled petal (lower centre) is a specialised petal called a lip. It attracts pollinators and provides them with a landing platform. This is an epiphytic orchid (one that grows in trees). It is found in the tropical areas of mainland Asia as far west as India. There are more than 30,000 species of orchids worldwide, many of which are grown as ornamental flowers.
