Cartographers traveled the United States and Canada in the late nineteenth century chronicling cities large and small. Prominent businesses paid for special emphases to advertise their presence. Communities used such maps to entice prospective residents to seek a fresh start in a bustling, prosperous city. Fort Worth, with 25,000 residents, fine homes, diverse businesses, churches, collegiate education, and convenient transportation offered much to those back East considering a move to Texas.
