ENIAC stands for Electronic Numeric Integrator And Calculator. The women are moving wires to change the connections between the 18,000 valves, thus changing the calculating 'program'. Although not a true computer, ENIAC is considered the second general purpose electronic calculator (after the British COLOSSUS).
