Grizzly bear (Ursus arctos) by a river with a chinook salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha) in its mouth. Salmon are caught as they leap up waterfalls while swimming upstream to breed. The grizzly bear is omnivorous, eating a varied diet including vegetation, fish, rodents and carrion. Adults are usually solitary. The grizzly bear is found throughout much of Europe, Asia and North America. It inhabits river valleys, mountain forests and open meadows. It can grow to 3 metres tall and weigh over 700 kilograms.
