Peter Lorre was an influential actor born on June 26, 1904, in Rózsahegy, Austria-Hungary (now Slovakia). He began his career in theater before making his film debut in the German silent movie "Der Mensch gegen die Bahn" in 1921. Lorre gained notoriety for his role in Fritz Lang’s 1931 classic "M," where he portrayed a child murderer, showcasing his ability to embody morally complex characters. After fleeing the rise of the Nazi regime, he immigrated to the United States, where he became a prominent figure in Hollywood, known for his distinctive voice and expressive features. Lorre starred in many films throughout the 1930s and 1940s, including "Casablanca" and "The Maltese Falcon," often playing sinister or eccentric roles. His career spanned several decades, and he remained a beloved figure in cinema until his death in 1964, leaving an indelible mark on both horror and film noir genres.
