Rib fractures. Coloured 3D computed tomography (CT) scan of the ribcage of a 27-year-old woman with fractures to the ribs on the right side at the T8 and T9 level (just left of centre). These fractures were caused by a road traffic accident, and have also caused an accumulation of blood (effusion) in the pleural cavity of the right lung (the lungs are not shown here). For CT scans of this internal bleeding, see images C040/3116 to C040/3119. The location of the fractures is shown in image C040/3122.
