A crewman expands the painted 'victory scroll' on Capt. Don S. Gentile's P-51B Mustang, "Shangri-La" on or about 10 April 1944 to accomodate recent victories.
Gentile, from Piqua, Ohio, flew with the RAF's 133 "Eagle" Squadron before transferring to the 8th Air Force's 4th Fighter Group in September 1942. His final score was 21.833 confirmed aerial victores flying P-47s and P-51s, including 2.0 flying Spitfires with the Royal Air Force, plus 3.0 officially credited as "Damaged." He is additionally credited with 7.0 enemy aircraft destroyed on the ground
Wade Meyers spent his early years at Fort Bragg, North Carolina before his family moved to Bossier City, La. when he was ten years old. Fulfilling a dream, Wade soloed a Cessna 150 at age 17 and went on to earn his Commercial and Flight Instructor pilot certificates. After high school, he earned a B.A. in History from Louisiana State University in Shreveport while serving in the US Air Force Reserve at Barksdale Air Force Base. With marriage came a move to the beautiful Birmingham, Alabama area. Diving in head first, Wade quit his job at an aviation museum in 2003 and began to work full-time as an aviation artist.
