Description
Cerebral palsy. Coloured 3D diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) scan of a rear view of the brain of a 23 year old with cerebral palsy. A DTI scan shows bundles of white matter nerve fibres, which transmit nerve signals between brain regions and between the brain and the spinal cord. The patient has right sided motor weakness, caused by encephalomalacia (softening of the brain due to degenerative changes in nervous tissue) of the left cerebral hemisphere, which is highlighted here by a lack nerve fibres.
