Artist's Description
Pulmonary embolism. Coloured 3D computed tomography (CT) angiography scan of the heart and pulmonary arteries of a 73-year-old woman in a case of a recent pulmonary embolism. The thrombus (abnormal blood clot) causing the embolism is seen at upper left in one of the pulmonary blood vessels of the lung. This condition can be fatal if it blocks the blood supply to the lungs. For this image with an arrow pointing to the thrombus, see image C037/1774.
