Description
These pigs are really loud! Spike covers his ears as they snort, grunt, and laugh at his "different" features. Certainly Spike will not find a home with these noisy creatures. Nevertheless, they were a lot of fun to paint! This is one of my favorite illustrations in the book.

Meet Spike the Dhog, an endearing creature (part pig, hedgehog and dog), who arrives on earth from points unknown. Go with this different fellow as he searches for a welcoming home among birds, fish, bears, turtles, prairie dogs, barn cats and pigs. Follow him as he goes cheerfully through the countryside on his quest to find a home where he will be accepted for who he is. Bright imaginative illustrations by watercolor artist Anne Gifford, with story by Priscilla Gifford.

What an amazing and beautiful illustration for this book! I think Spike is beautiful even if he is part pig, dog and hedgehog!

Beautifully done Anne. This is my favorite of your book illustrations. The expressions on the pig faces are priceless, a bit like humans who encounter something that they consider different or lack compassion to try and understand. Congrats on being featured in Our World gallery. Susan
Anne Gifford replied:
Thank you for your insightful comment, Susan. You have described exactly what I was trying to portray with this painting, and I appreciate your kind comment.
