History is my hobby and wily statesman Maurice Talleyrand an unexpected hero. This image is of him aged 40 in Philadelphia exile: bored, lonely and homesick for Paris. This second mug now makes a pair. I chose the mauve background to match the upholstery of my neoclassical office sofa & chair.
