I have always loved making art and creating. It's been such a great way to express myself as well as connect to a higher world of limitless possibilities. I prefer creating unencumbered by "rules" and create what I feel wants to be made. I've been mostly inspired by nature and the coast and my many visits to Cape Cod. I hope you find something you enjoy within my art - I'm having much fun creating it all. My work has been on/in: ** Foodnetwork - Valerie's Home Cooking ** HGTV ** Wayfair ** Netflix ** McGee and Co ** Pottery Barn ** Neiman Marcus ** West Elm ** 1stdibs ** Art Business News Magazine All artwork Copyright 2003-2023 Jacquie Gouveia. I too go through what you do Jacquie. I find I have an idea in mind when I start a painting, and that I cannot seem to get to turn out like I had planned. I am finding what helps the frustration is letting go of my "perfectionist type A personality" and letting it be. I find it is quite helpful to let the canvas talk to me instead of me talking to it. I see your work and I feel like you have let the painting decide how it turns out as well. It should not be a struggle as many artists find themselves doing, but an acceptance. You chose a perfect title for this one. I also love the calmness I feel when I see your work. Beautifully done!
Jacquie Gouveia replied:
Thanks Patricia. I sometimes stand in front of a painting and say "what do you want me to do??" I don't really mind the creative struggle, then I know it's more than just slapping paint on a canvas. But I agree - letting go, working on a different piece or going for a walk helps.

As an artist there are times when I feel like I have no idea what I am doing and it can be frustrating and heart breaking. But because I have been painting for a long time, I know it is all part of the creative process. I was having these uncertain feelings as I was trying to pull this painting together - hence the title "A Familiar Unknown".
