Description
The Queen Butterfly (Danaus gilippus) Is a very close cousin of the Monarch. The top wings are totally different as the Queen is darker and more brownish. But the underwings and the spotted heads are very similar. They are found mostly in the southern states of the US and down toward Cuba, Central America and Mexico.
I captured this one in what is rapidly becoming one of my favorite places: The Audubon Societies little nature center and trails in downtown Stuart, Florida. I am usually the only one there and can shoot anything from butterflies to birds to flowers. And there is not too much walking to do and I can sit often. Great place to visit if you are traveling through Stuart.
