Description
Once an impressive structure, the Parke County Asylum building now sits in ruins and decay. Originally, the county poor asylum, it later became a nursing home and the state finally closed it down in 2010. Today it stands abandoned and forlorn as nature reclaims it slowly. There are rumors of it being haunted, but those stories seem to always go along with these type of buildings. The building has two main floors with many rooms which seemed to provide individual accommodations and some which seemed to have children tenants also. There is also a basement which is very dark and an even darker attic, except near a few windows and holes in the roof.
This is in a smaller building behind the main house. There were seven cells here at one time, the accommodations look pretty sad, good thing this place was finally shut down about ten years ago.
