I have been in a similar setting many times while tramping around the High Sierras or the Colorado Rockies. The late afternoon light is fading and the air is cooling. The light dusting of snow on the distant mountain suggests the changing season.
About Don Trout
Don began drawing in early childhood. While in grade school, he won a Saturday scholarship to the Kansas City Art Institute. Don earned a degree in fine art from the University of Kansas City and on graduating, was drafted into the Army. On completion of military service he moved to California and secured a job with Lockheed as a technical illustrator. Using the GI Bill, he attended night school classes at the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles. While in the aerospace field he held positions of technical illustrator, commercial artist, and finally art director of an in-house art group. Don enjoys exploring a wide range of styles in his work. He has always painted representational subject matter but in recent years has begun to use...

Thank you Andrzej, it's great when other artists appreciate your work. This painting started as a classroom demo,was incomplete, and laid away in the studio for years. I pulled it out last year, incorporated some needed changes, and finally finished it. I enjoy reworking some of my older work. Hopefully, I have progressed since then and can add to that experience.

Thanks for your comment Mary, I haven't been able to revisit the mountains in quite some time but have vivid memories of backpacking trips and hiking through similar scenes so I let my imagination do the work
