Silk-FeatherBrush Number 4: "All-Night Vigil at the Lighthouse Blues Club"

Listen to classic American Blues music and you will hear some of everything from the most depressing song lyrics to some of the most hilarious and inspiring. It was my goal with this art-piece, "All-Night Vigil at the Lighthouse Blues Club," to capture something of the range of the music's expressed emotions as reflections of our modern times.

Pretending horrible things don't exist doesn't make them go away but fortifying ourselves with creative inspiration can make coping with them more manageable. Therefore the painted flashes of red like the whirling screaming lights of ambulances, and flashes of yellow like moments of inspired persistent joy.

In the center of it all sits the Lighthouse Blues Club where performance artists help safeguard our capacity for elated wonder by swallowing pain and churning it into creative expression. If more folks were to learn that trick then the news this past week in my beloved homeland might have been that hate crimes have decreased rather than increased for the third consecutive year. As it is, maintaining mindful vigilance on the lookout for more opportunities to celebrate life rather than destroy it seems fairly reasonable.

Aesthetically-speaking, I'm pretty fond of "All-Night Vigil at the Lighthouse Blues Club" because of how it extends application of the Silk-Featherbrush technique and because I do, in fact, enjoy a great Blues song.
