Bristlecone Pines cling to life in the mountains of several western states in the U.S. They live above 10,000 feet in poor soil conditions and endure weather and temperature extremes. Even with all this, they are among the oldest living things on earth. One of the trees in the White Mountains in Central California is estimated to be over 4,000 years old.
