Andrew Jackson was the seventh President of the United States, and served from 1829 to 1837. He is the only president to serve in both the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812. His national fame came when as a Major General in the War of 1812, he led troops to victory in the Battle of New Orleans, a major American victory against the British. This statue of Jackson is the centerpiece of Lafayette Square, a seven-acre park across the street from the White House in Washington, D.C. Made by Clark Mills in 1853, it was the first statue of a person on horseback to be cast in the United States.
I enjoy photography and writing, and sometimes think of myself as a photojournalist. If there is a story to be told with a photograph, I tell it. As a longtime resident of Washington, DC, a lot of my photographs are of this area, and I enjoy writing in the description something about the shot -- it could be a short statement about an equestrian statue in the middle of a park, or a more intimate tale of the mausoleum where Abraham Lincoln's son, Willie, was entombed for the remaining three years of Lincoln's presidency after the boy's death.
