Description
In a work that took over 100 years and four generations to complete, the Cassini family succeeded in creating the first national map of a country based on modern principles of surveying and astronomy, the Carte Géométrique de la France. The final product consisted of 180 maps covering the entire area of France. In this map of the region around Paris, rivers, roads, forests, natural features, and city blocks and buildings are depicted.
