Description
Cut-away illustration of the Apollo 11 spacecraft Command Module (CM). The CM contained the controls, display and navigation equipment required to fly the Apollo spacecraft, which was also composed of the Service Module and Lunar Module. Neil Armstrong, the mission commander, was in the left-hand seat to operate the flight controls on the left side of the main display panel. Michael Collins, the CM pilot, was in the centre seat. He was incharge of the guidance and navigation systems, and also flew the spacecraft at times. In the seat at right was Edwin (Buzz) Aldrin, the Lunar Module pilot. The Command Module was the only section of the spacecraft to return to Earth.
