Description
Arpeley Landfill Power Generation Plant. The Arpeley Landfill site in Warrington, Cheshire, is the largest landfill gas power generation scheme in the UK. Covering an area of 1km by 2km, the landfill site currently receives over one million tonnes of waste each year. At full capacity the plant extracts some 9,000 cubic metres of landfill gas per hour at 50% methane, via a network of wells and extraction pipes. The plant uses 18 containerised 1MW (megawatt) Jenbacher gas engine generators. The scheme is run in partnership by 3C Waste and the Gengas division of CPL Industries. Photographed in 2005.
