Description
Edinburgh, my home city is a beautiful, scenic and vibrant city, a city that draws tourists and visitors from all corners of our world.
There is no doubt, one of the main draws is the incredible natural wonder that is known as Arthurs Seat. Situated in Holyrood Park, but stretches out beyond and influences the whole geography of Edinburgh’s old and new town areas.
Arthurs seat is a 300-350 million year old extinct volcano that has 3 obvious around town summits, the first being within Holyrood Park. The second being Calton Hill to the north and the Castle Rock to the west.
Geologist James Hutton described the volcano as a geological wonder and Robert Louis Stevenson once described Arthurs seat as, a hill for magnitude, a mountain in virtue of its bold design.
Arthurs seat sits just 1 mile east of Edinburgh City Centre and can be accessed from many points around the volcano, east, west and north road access is available and you can drive up the volcano to Dunsapie Hill/Loch to take in some amazing all round views.
Arthurs Seat has 3 Lochs of which you will also find throughout this collection. St Margaret’s Loch, Dunsapie Loch and The larger Duddingston Loch are 3 great visitor spots.
This 18 piece collection of Photographs takes in Arthurs Seat from Holyrood Park Road, which is accessed from the South of the Volcano.
The photos include the amazing Salisbury crags which are also known as Samson’s Ribs. You can also view the Sleeping Lion from this point. You can see the difference between both and as James Hutton concludes that both sides of this volcano must have evolved at different periods.
I hope you enjoy the view of what I see as one of the most beautiful natural city wonders anywhere in the world. Arthurs seat is a special place to visit and explore, thank you for looking and you will see these photos in both colour and black and white in my Edinburgh and Beyond collections.
