In 2003 while visiting a friend in the town of Oro Valley, AZ, I drew this dramatic scene of a line of backburn deliberately set to prevent the Aspen wildfire from coming down over the mountain ridge. The medium is oil pastel on heavy tinted Canson paper.

Yes, these fires are horrifying; this one in 2003 ravaged the community of Summerhaven at the top of Mt.Lemmon.
